    Our Vision & Mission

VISION: Utah children and youth with serious emotional disturbance and their families living in kidsfrontier communities will have the clinically sound services and supports needed for them to safely live at home in mutually beneficial relationships with other family members, progress through school, and participate positively in the community.

MISSION: Bringing providers, educators, businesses, community leaders and neighbors together to help families succeed at home, at school and in their community by listening and working together to create services and supports that truly meet family's needs.

A system of care is defined as:
A comprehensive spectrum of mental health and other necessary services which are organized into a coordinated network to meet the multiple and changing needs of children and their families.

    Summary of Goals

  I. The functions of New Frontiers for Family include goals to combat deterioration of communities and juvenile delinquency through education. The activities will utilize approximately 35% of staff time. The activities of New Frontiers for Families include:        

  • Wraparound facilitation to prevent removal from home, community or school. This furthers our purpose by promoting  community involvement, empowering families, and supporting students to succeed in schools. Wraparound facilitation will be initiated by referral from family or agency partners. Activity will be conducted in the child’s community, by a trained family facilitator who will be New Frontiers for Families staff.

  • Family training to educate families on how to reduce delinquency and build communities. Activities include The Family Academy (attachment A); Peer parenting; Coaching and modeling; Parent Support Groups; Parenting Groups (attachment B); Transition Services; Outreach and Orientation. This will be provided by trained New Frontiers for Families staff.

II. New Frontiers for Families will seek to support families in frontier and rural communities in which a significant portion of the population is at or below poverty levels. Current population of youth in service for Mental Health in our communities indicates that 77% of the population is at or below poverty level. (Please see attachment C). Information provided by the Utah Frontiers Project. New Frontiers for Families trained staff will provide these services at the request of family, agency, or team. This will utilize approximately 30% of staff time.        

  • Transportation        
  • Linking and coordinating services to both formal agency supports and informal community supports.

III. New Frontiers for Families will seek to eliminate discrimination of children and adults who suffer from mental health disorders or whom suffer from disabilities, physical, emotional, mental or other. This will be provided by trained New Frontiers for Families staff and will take approximately 15% of their time.        

  • We will do this by providing accurate and researched based information.        
  • We will provide educational conferences to include families and agency partners.        
  • We will utilize data to support information provided.

IV. New Frontiers for Families will defend the rights of individuals and promote responsibility from agencies partners to assist individuals who may or may not be able to defend themselves. This will be provided by trained New Frontiers for Families staff and will require approximately 15% of staff time.        

  • We will provide direct advocacy when requested.      
  • We will support through direct advocacy the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Americans with Disabilities Act for families and youth.

V. New Frontiers for Families will seek to build community supports and lesson tension in neighborhoods through mediation and negotiation. This well be provided by New Frontiers for Families staff and will require approximately 5% of staff time.        

  • We will utilize teaming strategies to support neighborhoods in resolving conflict that may be created by involvement with families and youth who suffer from physical, emotional or mental disabilities.
